Southern Land Co. hires acquisitions leader for Colorado

DENVER — Tennessee-based Southern Land Co., which is developing the Westerly community in Erie, has hired a director of acquisitions to oversee deals in Colorado and Nevada.

Tanner Johnson, the company’s new director of acquisitions for SLC’s Mountain Region, joins the firm from Cushman & Wakefield PLC, Southern Land said in a news release.

“He brings nearly 20 years of experience in commercial real estate, site selection, development, and more to SLC,” the release said. “Johnson works in SLC’s Mountain Region office in Denver, where he utilizes his experience and familiarity with the Denver market and submarkets to discern opportunities for future SLC properties.”

Westerly is located on 400 acres at Erie Parkway and Weld County Road 5, will have about 1,200 homes at buildout and is expected to be valued at roughly $750 million.

In addition to the 1,200 homes, Westerly is set to include a roughly 35,000-square-foot town center element with retail and dining.

Uses could include a gym, restaurant, brewery, dry cleaner, salon, coffee shop and small offices such as a real estate brokerage.

The town square will also house many of Westerly’s amenities such as trailheads and a community center.
