Larimer County coroner leaving post

FORT COLLINS — Larimer County coroner James Wilkerson is leaving his position effective today and county officials are set to appoint Gary Darling, a long-time leader at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, to serve as interim coroner until a voters select a permanent replacement in November.

Wilkerson, whose term was set to end in January 2023, and his family are moving out of state, according to a Larimer County news release. 

“The board of county commissioners wishes Dr. Wilkerson all the best in his new endeavors,” Larimer County Commissioner Kristin Stephens said in the release. “The Larimer County Coroner’s Office is in good hands moving forward. With Gary’s leadership experience and the high-quality professionals staffing the office, we know our community will continue to receive excellent customer service throughout this transition period.”
